POTW: SNAKES!!!

with 6 comments

No, not eradicating real snakes. Making fake ones.

Since we have an old house, we’ve had to be innovative with the a/c. No ductwork. So a few years ago, we got that mini-split system for the upstairs, and it works pretty well. IF the door at the top of the stairs stays shut. IF. There’s the problem.

I was really hoping to not turn the a/c on up there for a few more weeks, and not even mess with the downstairs one until at least July….but the temps creeping up near 100 this weekend shot that idea right in the foot.

So Chris and I spent all weekend, every time a kid would go up or down, yelling “Shut the door!”

Amazingly, Celia gets it much better than Jordan does. She was groggy when she woke from nap and came downstairs. Chris asked her if she shut the door, and she said “Well. I left it open a cwack.”

She was sent back up to close it. She did, and came back down and told Chris “I cwosed it. But dere is still a cwack unner it for da air to come out. We need to fix dat cwack”

Amazing logic for a 3 year old. Well, she tried to fix the crack (it’s rather large…there used to be carpet up there and now there is not….a good 2 inch crack.) and got frustrated…..so I told her we’d make some stuffed snakes to block that crack.

So we did.

It’s just some leftover fabric, sewn then turned. I put some button eyes and a ribbon tongue on there, just to be cute. Then we filled with deer corn (leftover from the heating pads we did at Christmas) and closed. We only needed one…..but I know my girl was planning on playing with that snake, so I made one for play and one for purpose.

(note…check out the ‘do!! she loves it, it was easy. AND….when we were running errands this morning one of the ladies at my eye doctor saw it and called EVERYONE out to see how cute it was and made me show them how to do it. i was flattered. i think celia was too!)

Nest time I’m going to alternate left right, so that one is under, the one behind it is over….so the whole left side isn’t under and the whole right over like it was today.

This is even after all morning worth of play!

Now, the *real* projects this week are not near as fun, nor will you get pics of those! I have to find out what the weird smell in the basement is (Jordan loves it…it makes me gag. It’s odd….kinda….sweetish? Ick) The garage door is open down there and the whole thing is airing out today. I will be very glad when we can replace the opener….it about kills me to wrestle that door open.

Also….there is a jungle on one side of our house and outside the back fence that need tackled with the weed eater. That will take a bunch of time, since it’s an electric weed eater. Great for the usual stuff….but it will probably take a few charges to make it though the neck high weeds out there.
