Sleepless nights = hazy days

with 4 comments

Sleep is a hot commodity around here.  With the exception of Jordan (and even he has suffered) no one is getting enough.

Celia goes through these cycles of sleep.  When we moved her to a twin bed last year, she did great.  It was awesome.  For the first time in two years we could sleep through the night (she was never a fan of the crib).  Then…she discovered her freedom.  And how nice it is to creep into mom and dad’s bed at 5 in the morning for snuggles.

Aww, that’s cute.  Everyone can live with that.  But it kept creeping earlier and earlier until lately…she’s been in there before I have at night!  Plus she has to be all up on me….pulling my hair, putting her fingers in my nose, kicking me in the stomach.  And Chris is no help.  Not only can he sleep through most of the thrashing around, he also can not STAND to here her cry up in her room, all alone…..so he goes to get her.  And brings her into bed, where she immediately cleaves to me like glue.  Me, i don’t so much mind a few tears in the middle of the night if it means some rest for me.  I’m mean like that.

Well, Chris had to be out of town for a few night last week, which made it the perfect time for operation get outta ma bed to commence.

Coincidentally, Celia didn’t end up having a nap either of those two days.  And she must be growing, because she had been very sleepy…but not sleeping well.  So both Saturday and Sunday, she went to sleep in the middle of the evening.  That meant she was ready to get up about 2 or 3.

Since the Lexapro has worn off, I’m back to my old night owl ways.  Saturday night, I didn’t even attempt to go to sleep until 2. (I had big important books to read.)  Right about the time Celia decided to be up.

I stuck her back in her bed twice after she came down to get in bed with me.  Then I heard rustling around upstairs and went to investigate…finding her in Jordan’s bed.  The poor boy was curled up against the wall, and there she is, laying right next to him, happy as a clam.  I put her back in her room and managed to grab about two hours of sleep before she came wandering back into my room.  Chewing something.

Me:  Celia….what are you chewing?

Celia:  Pizza.

Me:  Did you get pizza out of the fridge?

Celia.  No.

Me:  Where did you get pizza from?

Celia.  Ma plate.  I didn’t finish it last night.  It’s still good.  I tasted it first.

Ugh.  Nasty.  Just so you know, apparently pizza can sit out all night and not be nasty, because she suffered no ill effects.  Yeah yeah, I left a half eaten piece of pizza on a plate in the kitchen all night.  Worse things have happened.  I had to hide the trash from Bennie (that’s a whole ‘nother post right there) and didn’t want to find it.  Plus, I had the aforementioned big important books to read.

Thankfully, Chris is home now and can help with some of these night-time battles.  Fat lot of good he is though…last night he went and slept in her bed with her, since I said she couldn’t come to ours.

More room for me, I say!

But now I’ll be working at so.zo a bunch this week.  (We’ve got something cool and special going on, check it out!)  And that doesn’t put me home until almost 1 AM.  Since I’ve never been one of those people who could just fall into bed and sleep….well, I will be operating on less sleep with week.

Expect general confusion and forgetfulness on my part.
