Back to the vet…
*sigh* Poor Bree. This has been a never ending cycle of just not good stuff.
Okay, so she has been acting better. Honestly, if it weren’t for the blue cone around her head and being shaved from the waist down…..you’d think she was fine. She plays, eats, wants to go outside.
But all has not been well. This gets gross, let me just warn you. First off, she’s still draining fromthe incision. It’s still clear, like the vet told me it should be. But she had this surgery two weeks ago! Should be done with that by now.
It gets worse though. I pick her up several times a day to check on her. Yesterday when I picked her up….well….she didn’t smell so pleasant. That’s not good. Not good at ALL. Even I know that.
So this morning I called to make an appointment. It was about time for her to have her stitches out (though they obviously weren’t ready to come out) anyway, and she just really needed to be checked again.
Well….sometime between when I checked this morning and I got her out the carrier at the vet, some of those stitches popped and she had a rather unpleasant…..hole….in her belly. The vet tech and I both gasped to see it, and she and the vet were shocked that she’s acting so normal. It must hurt.
But she’s just so sweet about everything…letting them check her out. No way can I look at this cat that is purring as I’m petting her, walking around like she’s feeling perfectly fine. Plus the vet is telling me that she’s fine, we just need to get this infection under control.
So she’s at the vet for the night. They are going to start her on a broad spectrum antibiotic today and tomorrow….more surgery. Not as bad this time. Just fix things up.
Oh…and she’s getting experimental new healing therapy. Or ancient healing wisdom as it may be. They pack the wound with sugar…which dehydrates the bacteria (instead of feeding it, which is what I thought it would do) and wrap it. For 10 days. Yep, regular household sugar.
I’m very dubious. And broke!
